Message: It's just geometry, which is to say relations of things. There's simple rules of thumb like cutting things in half and half again.
But the trouble of simplifications like two-point perspective is that they aren't how reality works. For example, since the visual circle is supposed to be 180 degrees wide, lines of equal distance aren't actually straight but curved, and the same is true horizontally and vertically so it gets complicated to draw rather quickly. But you may notice that in the very center of the image, the lines of equal distance (depth) become more straight so two-point perspective becomes approximately true as long as you're at least some distance away from the subject. |
